Whenever people ask us about our retail partners, we can't help but brag about them! The largest (and friendliest) of our partners is hands-down Adorama, we just love these guys! We just had to take a moment to brag on them, because for the first time ever, we were a banner on their main homepage!! It's true, I have the screen capture to prove it:
In fact, they are hosting a MAJOR Shootsac sale right now till the end of the day!! $179 gets you a bag AND cover! Just click the image above to shop!

SURPRISE JESSICA!! GUEST BIRTHDAY POST FROM YOUR HUSBAND JEFF!
As you're reading this, you and Acey are probably eating ice chips on the couch… dreaming about how much you want that baby out of you. I can't believe that just 2 years ago this was you:
Right after this we got married and had our baby girl, Acey Puppy:
It's crazy to think that this is you just two years later, beautiful as ever… knocked up with my baby:
Nine months ago you were hoping that you were pregnant with a sheepdog. It's been so awesome to see you grow into an excited mother (to-be). If how you are with Acey is any indication of how you will be with our son, he will be so lucky to have you as his mother.
Enjoy today! You deserve it! I love you so much and I can't wait to celebrate 50 more birthdays with you… and our son.
Love,
Jeff

In other news, I wanted to wish a big Happy Birthday to my favorite month of babies, JULY!!! As a July baby myself today, the 22nd (due with a baby who will also be a July baby), it's no secret that July is obviously the best month for birthdays.
At Shootsac, we are a big fan of birthdays. In fact, if you sign up for our mailing list, we even mail you a little something something for your birthday, just because we like to celebrate (don't worry, we do it every month, not just for July!). All you have to do is CLICK HERE GET ON OUR MAILING LIST!! (oh, and don't forget to put in your birthday month).
With Shootsac Baby's arrival just around the corner (oh lord, I HOPE SO), I wanted to share a few more details about the nursery with you!
Here is a wide shot of the nursery:
The room is VERY small--about 8x10, with one of the ceilings sloped also. However, it had lots of character, which is why I chose it over two other rooms for the baby. Jeff built me the book case in the corner so I'd have somewhere to display toys and other cute things. It's from IKEA and I absolutely LOVE it! It was also way easier to put together than most of the other things we've gotten there.
Where I'm standing to take the photo is where our rocking chair/glider goes. No pics of that yet because I'm waiting on the cushions to be recovered. Hopefully they will arrive before baby!
The book case is filled with all kinds of things I love. On the left you can see the pillow that inspired the room (and the new JOY COVER. You can also see a ferris wheel--Jeff and I got engaged on one, and this particular vintage one was actually at our wedding!
On the right is a collection of little monsters that we love, and the baby book I've already started for the little guy:
Here's a close up of the baby book by the awesome and talented Ruby Love
In the first photo, you can see some frames above the dresser (which Jeff painted for me as a surprise!). The frames are all stock photos of adorable little monsters that we purchased--check it out:
We got them all on 123RF.com, a stock website that has tons of choices and is super affordable!
We have been in a constant search for quirky but cute monsters to add to the room. My favorite that we've found comes from a line called Foodchain Friends! Their motto is "we're friends, we eat each other...it's a complicated relationship!" So clever!
That's pretty much it! We kept the room simple as it's so small, but we think it's fun to look at and can't wait for the final touch...THE BABY!
Happy Birthday July Babies, Baby Shootsac, and Jessica Claire!

As I mentioned below, the nursery wasn't exactly a point of contention between Jeff and I, but rather a negotiation of bringing both of our styles into the room. We both agreed on the idea that we wanted it to be a fun, colorful, interesting space for our baby boy to enjoy looking at (and suit our own eyes as well)!
When designing the nursery-inspired JOY COVER (limited edition) this month, we wanted to bring that sense of detail to YOU! That's why we decided to add a little detail in addition to the already so-stinkin-cute red ball trim that carried over from the nursery--this little HEART PIN!
This heart pin is attached to EACH AND EVERY Joy cover purchased (and there's only a few to go around). You can use it on the cover, swap it to another cover, or use it as a little detail in your own nursery or home! And I have to say, I am already quite excited to do something fun with it for Valentine's Day!
Speaking of detail and the nursery, if you know me, I am a PROCRASTINATOR! Jeff was feeling a bit anxious up until this week because the nursery wasn't exactly...done. Truth be told, we are still waiting on ONE key piece of it!
Because of this (and the VERY small size of the nursery), when it came time to photograph the Shootsac Joy Cover, it just wasn't going to be able to take place in the nursery itself. I wanted to have a shoot with some fun and character that also brought the nursery theme out into the open!
Luckily, most of my friends either have recently had or are about to have BABIES! They are EVERYWHERE these days in Ladera (we joke that if you want a baby, drink the water here! If you don't...bring your own :) ). I got my good friend Candice Brooke and her two month old son Oslo to be our models for this little shoot!
Here are some of the fun photos from the shoot that you didn't get to see!
Seriously, I hope I look anything like this after having a baby!!!

If you haven't heard by now, Shootsac co-founder Jessica Claire (yes, that's me) is expecting the first baby into the Shootsac family THIS WEEK! This is a big week, as it is my birthday week as well (coming FRIDAY), so we thought we'd share the excitement with YOU!!
To commemorate the big occasion we have all kinds of AMAZINGNESS going on! One of the things we're most excited about is the cover this month--a limited edition, baby commemorative cover called JOY! Here's JOY:
This cover takes its inspiration from the nursery I've been working on for baby! The original nursery inspiration came from this adorable pillow from Coco Cuscino that was given to me when I was teaching at Aspire in the UK back in April:
I thought it had the perfect look for a baby boy color scheme!
Now, my husband Jeff is a bit more of a traditionalist and wanted the baby to have a little kid type of theme. Being quite non-traditional myself, we ended up coming to a compromise of a theme I hadn't seen yet--Little Monsters! I haven't ever seen a monster themed nursery (don't worry, we are sticking to really CUTE monsters), so I was excited to bring both the pattern and the monsters into the room!
And now for a SNEAK PEEK of the nursery!
Here's a small shot of the nursery pre-intervention:
And here's a couple of photos of what we've done! Note that we've brought the stripe and ball pattern into a custom window box in the photo on the left! It was made by my neighbor Lisa (thanks Lisa)!
I am still waiting on one finishing touch for the room, so later this week I'll be posting other angles of the nursery along with where we found each of the pieces!
In the meantime, ENJOY THE SALE!! $150 Shootsac, Limited edition JOY cover, and MORE! Just click the banner below to shop NOW--sale ends FRIDAY!!

All over the USA tonight, we'll be able to look up and see amazing burst of fireworks illuminating the sky! It's no surprise that shooting fireworks is on our mind as we get ready for the big night :)
People are often intimidated by shooting fireworks because they seem so tricky and happen too infrequently to practice much. With these little hints, you can nail the fireworks shot of your dreams!
Last year, I photographed a wedding over this same weekend and the fireworks show was quite long--I had a lot of time to practice before the grand finale. Here's what you need for your shot:
-a camera and somewhat wide angle lens (I'd recommend at least a 35, and a 24 if you've got one)
-a tripod is preferable and will give you more options but isn't 100% necessary--fireworks are bright!
-a remote release if you're really wanting to make sure you have no shake lines in your photos
-a clear shot at the sky
Settings:
-If you have a tripod, shoot at the lowest ISO you can. 400 and lower works best for the least amount of grain as long as you are properly exposed
-DON'T USE A FLASH. Tripod or not, a flash will ruin the gorgeous lights the fireworks give off and make your shot look cloudy
-Don't go for a super long exposure without a release ... tripod. The fireworks are plenty bright and a 30 second exposure is more than enough for a nice clean shot most of the time. If you don't have a tripod, stabilize yourself as well as possible (sit down and brace the camera against your face) before triggering the shutter
Here was my favorite experimental shot from last year:
This time, I decided to try a long exposure. My settings for this photo were:
400 ISO, 5.6 Apeture, 8 second exposure, handheld.
That's right--8 seconds, handheld. I didn't bring a tripod with me on this trip.
The reason this technique works so well is that the low ISO keeps the photo from being too noisy. It also forces a longer exposure, which is why the trails of the fireworks are so long. I was able to focus at 5.6 on a previous firework that was set off before this shot.
You can handhold something like this because when the fireworks go off is the only time the frame will be illuminated. Between fireworks, it's pitch black, and the explosion freezes the action like a flash would. If you move during the explosion though, you'll have a blurry shot. It's WAY BETTER AND EASIER to shoot this on a tripod.
(it also helped that the people setting these fireworks off were...untrained and had them going off waaaaay low. That's why the smoke, ground, and barn are so well illuminated.)
hope this helps, and happy belated 4th! We'd love to see your favorite fireworks shots--post a comment with a link or email your best to flamingo@shootsac.com!
